Germinating Guava Seed In Pot
Guava tree can be propagated in a number of ways, including by seed, grafting, and air layering. In commercial cultivation, most guava is grafted onto an established rootstock, which helps the plant thrive and flower. If you are growing guava from guava seed, the plant might not produce fruit true to the parent, but the plant can still make a lovely potted specimen.
To increase the chances of germination, let the seeds sit in a little water for two weeks, or boil them for five minutes, then plant in a pot filled with soilless seed-starting mix. Cover the guava seed with just a small amount of seed-starter mix. Place the guava plant in pot in a warm place above 65 degrees Fahrenheit, and keep it moist by misting it whenever the top of the soil surface feels dry. Germination of seed will take two to eight weeks.
When the young guava plant becomes vigorous (it can take a couple of months), it can be transplanted into its adult pot, where it will be best grown in a location with temperatures of 75 degrees or above. Young guava plants are very slow-growing at first, so don't be surprised if it takes a couple of years for them to achieve an attractive stature. If your guava plant is destined to flower and set fruit, it can take as much as 8 years.

How To Grow Guava From Seed
The guava fruit tree is a highly attractive tree. The leaves and flowers are both mildly fragrant and attractive. The guava fruit tree, if grown in the ground, will grow to a height up to 12 feet in tropical regions. The guava tree will grow to a smaller size in a container. The guava tree produces white 1 inch size flowers.
The guava fruits are about 5 inches in diameter; either Oval, pear or round shaped and the ripe fruit has a rich pungent smell which spreads quickly in the house.
The guava fruit has white, pink and yellow flesh with seeds at its center. The taste of the guava fruit varies from sour to sweet, depending on its variety.
- The guava fruit tree started from seed will produce fruit in 1 to 3 years. Buy good quality guava seeds from a garden shop.
- To speed up the germination, soak the seeds in water for 10-15 days, or boil them for 5 minutes before planting. This will soften the hard coating of the guava seeds, encouraging the inner embryo to germinate
- Take a small pot and fill it with seed raising soil. Sow the seeds about a quarter inch about 0.5 cm below the soil and water. Keep the soil moist. Cover the pot with a plastic wrap to maintain a high humidity inside the soil.
- Guava fruit seeds germinate at temperatures between 20 to 25°C. If the temperature is low, you can germinate the guava seeds indoors. The guava seeds germination takes about 3-10 weeks when the tiny sprouts will emerge from the soil. Remove the top plastic cover from soil.
- Transplant the seedlings when they are 4 to 18 inch high plant.
