ABOUT ROSEMARY PLANT: The Rosemary plant (Botanical Name: Salvia rosmarinus ) is an evergreen shrub characterized by the presence of sword-like leaves. The plant bears bright flowers ranging between colour like pink, purple, white, and blue. The plant belongs to the family Lamiaceae.
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF ROSEMARY PLANTS:
SOIL: Well-drained soil is best for Rosemary plant. Pots must have holes in them to drain off any excess water.
WATER: Watering can be done only when the topsoil becomes dry. Overwatering should be prevented. Watering can be done directly in the soil.
SUNLIGHT: Proper exposure to light is needed. Soon after planting 5-6 hours of exposure to the direct sun should be provided.
FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT: Any water-soluble light fertilizer can be used during the growth stage of the plant during the summer months of March to July. The use of peat culture should be avoided.
USES/BENEFITS OF ROSEMARY:
- The leaves are used for culinary purposes.
- Rosemary oil is extracted to prepare perfumes, lotions, etc.
WHERE TO SOW SEEDS OF ROSEMARY: Rosemary seeds can be sown both outdoors in the open garden or it can be potted in containers as well. In the case of potted plants, the exposure time to the sun should be taken care of.
