ABOUT LOTUS: Lotus (Botanical Name: Nelumbo nucifera) is grown as an aquatic plant and belongs to the family Nelumbonaceae. It is commonly called the Sacred Lotus, Laxmi Lotus, or the Indian Lotus. Lotuses are naturally found to be growing in freshwater bodies like ponds or lakes.
CARE TIPS FOR LOTUS:
- SEEDS: Prior to sowing the seeds, they can be soaked in warm water overnight. It ensures better germination. Seeds can be sown in containers initially. The container holes should be blocked and then placed inside a water container. Once germination occurs and the plant stem reaches a height of 7-8 cm, the pots can be taken outside in water gardens.
- SUNLIGHT: The containers should be placed in a spot outside that receives direct sunlight throughout the day.
- SOIL: The plant prefers nutrient-rich soil. So, soil can be mixed with vermicompost for growing lotuses.
- WATER: The container should be soaked in water. The water level should be maintained according to the stem height.
