Cissus discolor is the botanical name for a lovely tropical vine known as the rex begonia vine or the tapestry vine. Through this plant is completely unrelated to actual rex begonias, the leaves are multi-colored and have an appearance very similar to a rex begonia, hence the common name. Cissus discolor has become a very popular houseplant, though in my experience, it performs much better when grown outdoors during the warmer months. The cissus discolor plant grows well in containers, in a hanging basket or the vine climbs along trellises. To enjoy full, colorful foliage, give the plant lots of warmth, sunshine and display the Cissus discolor in a hanging basket.

About the Plant -:

Common Name- Rex Begonia Vine

Scientific Name- Cissus javana

Maturity Height- Discolor is a climbing plant reaching heights or lengths of up to 6’ – 8’ feet.

Cissus discolor Care -

Light - Rex Begonia Vine needs bright indirect light to thrive. For best color, it would be wise to keep it near an east-facing window, that’ll help the plant to get the mild morning sun, saving it from the harsh rays.

Water -: Water your Rex Begonia Vine plant daily throughout the growing season that is, during summer and spring. Never allow the soil to go completely dry, and always test the soil with your finger. If the leaves start to droop, then this can be a sign of overwatering. If this happens, then leave your plant alone and let the topsoil dry out.

Soil -:Rex Begonia Vine plants require rich, nutrient soil that is also well-draining.

Temperature -: 21-27°C. Cissus discolor loves high humidity, mist often to keep it healthy. You can also keep its pot on a pebble tray filled with water or get a humidifier.

Fertilizer -: Feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer, once every 5-7 weeks, during summer and spring. Do refer to the label for dosage and instructions. Avoid fertilizing the plant in winters.
