Caladium Care
Sunlight - Need bright light but not direct sunlight.
Watering - When leaves appear, keep evenly moist. Never allow to dry out and keep humidity as high as practical.
Soil - Moist, rich soil.
Temperature - 70 to 85 degrees C
Fertilizer. - Feed weekly with a diluted water-soluble fertilizer to assure continued growth of new leaves.
Planting procedure
- In temperate locations, they need to be taken out before the first frost.
- The corms are dried and placed in storage for the winter when the temperature falls to 65 degrees F (18 degrees C). Throughout the cold season, they are kept between 56 degrees F (13 degrees C) and 61 degrees F in a moderately dry (not bone-dry) environment (16 degrees C)
- It is recommended to plant caladiums 4 to 6 inches deep and space them that far apart.
- Just enough water should be given to the caladiums to keep the soil moist but never enough to drown it.
Benefits
A tiny amount of nectar from the plant's blooms is produced; this nectar is a source of sugar and can be utilised as a sweetener in recipes. Textile dyes are created using the leaves of the caladium. It is used as a beautiful plant and its leaves have been utilised in medicine. The blooms can be used to make jams, jellies, syrups, tea, wine, and other beverages.
