ABOUT ASIATIC LILY:

They are botanically called Lilium aurantum. Asiatic lilies are also called names like Golden-rayed lily or the Gold band lily. Plants grow up to a height of 3 meters.

HOW TO GROW LILIES FROM BULBS:

The Lilies can be easily grown in large pots or directly in the garden. Bulbs can be sown maintaining a 5-6 inch spacing in a regular potting soil mixture at a depth of 4 inches. Freesias start blooming 8-10 weeks post-sowing the bulbs.

SOIL: The plant prefers moist soil conditions, especially during the entire span of the growing period. However, overwatering should be avoided.

SUNLIGHT: The plant needs direct exposure to the sunlight; hence the pot can be placed in a south-facing direction. 3-4 hours of direct sunlight is required for growth and development. A temperature between 13-25 degrees Celcius is optimum for the plant.

WATERING: The plant requires moist soil throughout the growing season. However, over-watering may lead to the rotting of the bulbs. Watering is to be done regularly to keep the soil moist.

USES/BENEFITS:

• They are used in bouquet designing and obviously for indoor gardening purposes.
• Bulbs of Asiatic lilies are used for consumption in countries like Japan.
