Caladiums plants are easy to grow and require low maintenance. They can be grown in both containers and the ground. The plants should be planted in a pot that is at least 4 inches deep and a container that is at least 10 inches deep. The soil should be kept moist but not saturated. It is important to keep the soil moist during the growing season and give the plant fertilizer when needed.

When planting a caladium, keep the soil moist but not soggy. Keep an eye on those growing in full sun as the soil there will dry out quickly. Once the plants are established and thriving in your garden, they will need only average water. Morning is the best time to water Caladium.

Caladiums should ideally be planted in slightly to almost fully shaded areas of your yard and garden. In hot dry regions, direct midday sun is often too intense for plants and can burn leaves. In cooler more temperate areas these plants can handle early morning or late afternoon sun and still thrive.

Caladiums don't need much fertilizer to be happy compared to "hungry" flowers like petunias. Mix some proven-winner premium continuous-release plant foods into the soil when you plant them. Feed a water-soluble plant food once a month. Apply a high nitrogen liquid fertilizer every 2 weeks while the plant is growing.
