Ground Orchid

The common species of orchid that blooms throughout the year is Spathoglottis plicata, also known as the ground orchid. It is endemic to South-Eastern Asia and the Philippines.

Round pseudobulbs that get bigger and more numerous as the orchid ages give rise to the leaves.

Common Name       -   Ground Orchid

Flower Color            -   White, Violet/Lavender, Light pink, Orange Yellow.

Bloom Time             -   Round the year.

Difficulty Level        - Easy.

Planting and care

  • The growing medium can be tested for watering by inserting your finger approximately an inch deep.
  • Give it some water if it's dry; otherwise, leave it alone. Indoor orchid plants also require a sufficient humidity level, between 50 and 70 percent.
  • You may boost the humidity in your house in a number of ways.
  • Plants should be misted daily, placed on a tray of pebbles or filled with water, or a humidifier can be used.

Sunlight          -   Full sun to partial shade.

Watering         -    Water thoroughly, then allow the surface and top layer of the planting media to dry out before you water it again.

Soil                   -      Orchid mixes or a combination of orchid mix and soil-less potting mix for general potted plants.

Temperature   -   They like to live in the high 80s during the day and no cooler than (10 C.) at night.

Fertilizer         -    Fertilize the orchid with a reduced-strength 20-20-20 fertilizer tablet once a month by inserting it about 6 inches deep in the center of the growing medium.
